As Technical Director, he will be leading the implementation and development of EcoCore®, including multi-cavity moulds for world-leading food service providers, FMCG brands and converters.

In this interview, Phil talks about his background, why he joined Bockatech and what he sees as the future for EcoCore.

Q — What's your background?

After graduating from the University of Manchester, I went straight into the world of packaging and have been exclusively involved in the development of rigid plastic solutions for over 20 years. This journey has included working for some of the industry heavyweights such as Aptar and RPC/Berry, from which I have gained great experience delivering complex projects to truly global customers.

Q — Why did you chose to join Bockatech?

Like many people in the industry, I have kept a close eye on Bockatech and EcoCore technology since its infancy. It’s a game-changing development that is a disruptor in the packaging world. I have a great passion for innovation and for developing truly unique products, so the time was right to join and help take it into the mainstream.

Q — What's industry's view of EcoCore?

Usually, innovations are brought to the market that have an advantage in one particular field. EcoCore is unique because it has multiple benefits that no other technology comes close to. It combines lightweight design with exceptional strength and insulation properties while also significantly reducing cycle times and costs. This not only reduces material usage and waste but also enhances the performance of packaging, making it truly groundbreaking.

Q — What future do you see for EcoCore?

I see EcoCore becoming a standard in sustainable packaging as it ticks every box in the hierarchy of waste — Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. As environmental concerns continue to grow, I see the market evolving towards more eco-friendly solutions, with EcoCore leading the way in innovation and sustainability.

Q — What’s your plan to make that vision come true?

My plan involves continuous research and development to further enhance EcoCore’s capabilities as well as making it easy for converters to use. The business so far has concentrated on one particular field in which it has had great success. This will continue into other areas as the market fully understands the benefits the technology brings. By better supporting our customers, collaborating with industry partners and staying ahead of market trends, we can drive adoption and demonstrate the tangible benefits of EcoCore technology.
